Learn to Relax
Walking in the fresh air can help us to relax and reduce stress.It is well recognised that being under stress can add to pain. Regardless of what is causing the pain, stress can make it worse or prolong it. Whilst stress heightens our awareness and feelings of discomfort, so feeling pain adds to stress – a vicious cycle.
You can help break this pain/stress cycle by learning to relax. There are many relaxation techniques and a variety of classes available to teach the skills. Yoga, Tai Chi and other exercise classes may help. Writing in a journal or talking with a councellor may also be valuable . Often just walking in the fresh air and breathing deeply will make a huge difference to our stress level. It’s worth a try.
